Kevin McAleenan, acting US Secretary of the Homeland Security, is set to resign, US President Donald Trump announced Friday by posting on his Twitter.

According to media reports, McAleenan has been the acting Homeland Security Secretary for the last five months, and was the fourth one to hold the position under Trump’s presidency.

President Trump stated that McAleenan “has done an outstanding job as acting Secretary of Homeland Security.”

“We have worked well together with Border Crossings being way down,” he added.

“Congratulations Kevin, on a job well done!”

Trump went on to say that he will be announcing the new Acting Secretary next week.

“Many wonderful candidates!” Trump wrote.

US Vice President Mike Pence commented on the matter by posting on his Twitter. “Thank you Kevin McAleenan for your dedication and service to our country,” he stated.

McAleenan thank the POTUS and said that with Trump’s support “we have made tremendous progress mitigating the border security and humanitarian crisis.” He added that throughout the last two months Trump’s administration managed to reduce unlawful border crossings and counter human smugglers.
