California to prohibit private prisons to struggle with Trump

The Democratic governor Gavin Newsom claimed that California would prohibit the exploitation of private prisons in order to put an end to over-incarceration as it does “not reflect our values.”
The state prison policy is reducing the deals of prisons regardless of the number of people, set by federal judges. Immigrant lawyers highly appreciated the bill that would stop the immigrant detention in California for the following year.
Besides, one private prison believes that the vast majority of the law would not be able to be rebutted.
“States cannot lawfully pass legislation mandating the closure of federal facilities that displease them on the basis of ideological differences,” the California-based Geo Group of Adelanto said.
California tried to struggle with US President Donald Trump to prevent him to expel people with an illegal stay. An American state also fought with a law of “sanctuary state” which obstruct police from interrogating immigrants about their status and enforcement actions.
The new regulation does not allow the state corrections department to expand the contracts starting from the following year and place the state detainees in for-profit prisons starting in 2028. Some states also ban Trump’s policy on non-issuance of green cards to immigrants who obtain Medicaid, food stamps and other government benefits.
“We are sending a powerful message that we vehemently oppose the practice of profiteering off the backs of Californians in custody,” Democrat Rob Bonta, who drafted the bill, said.
