Edward Snowden says Joe Biden threatened countries not to grant him asylum
Edward Snowden, former CIA subcontractor who revealed global surveillance programs, claimed that Joe Biden, former US Vice President and a 2020 presidential nominee, threatened countries not to grant him asylum, despite the fact that they officially protect whistleblowers.

In an interview with Brian Williams of MSNBC, explained that his requests for asylum in countries, such as France, Norway and Germany, were turned down due to pressure from Biden.

When asked whether he was actively searching for asylum in any other countries, Snowden, who is currently staying in Russia, stated that he had no chance to get out of Russia, as senior US government officials threatened other countries not to protect him.

“I applied for asylum in 27 different countries around the world,” Snowden said. “Places like France and Germany, places like Norway, that I felt the U.S. government and the American public could be comfortable, that was fine for a whistleblower to be in, and yet every time one of these governments got close to opening their doors, the phone would ring in their foreign ministries and on the other end of the line would be a very senior American official.”

Snowden went on to say that John Kerry, former Secretary of State, or Biden called the foreign ministries and told them that no matter what their law was, they shall not protect this particular whistleblower if they do not want consequences to follow. According to Snowden, Biden and Kerry said they did not care whether governments could protect whistleblowers or not, although it was a matter of human rights, and would take responsive measures if Snowden was  griven asylum.
